Product Overview
This package includes 1000 grams of EMB (Levine) agar, designed to select for gram-negative bacteria and differentiate between lactose-fermenting and non-fermenting species. This medium exclusively supports the growth of gram-negative bacteria. Lactose-fermenting bacteria will produce colored colonies, while non-lactose fermenters will form colorless colonies. E. coli colonies are noted for their distinctive green sheen, aiding in identification. To prepare the medium, mix 36 g with 1 L of deionized water, bring to a boil while stirring until fully dissolved, autoclave, then pour into petri dishes or culture tubes and let cool and solidify. The dehydrated agar is conveniently packaged in a plastic open-mouth bottle for easy storage. Each bottle yields 27 L of growth medium.
