Product Overview
This package contains 500 grams of MacConkey Agar, specifically formulated to select for gram-negative bacteria and differentiate between lactose-fermenting and non-fermenting species. Only gram-negative bacteria will grow on this medium. Lactose-fermenting bacteria produce pink colonies, while non-lactose fermenters yield colorless colonies. The dehydrated agar is conveniently packaged in a plastic bottle with an open mouth for easy access. To prepare, mix 50 grams of the medium with 1 liter of deionized water, bring to a boil while stirring until fully dissolved, autoclave, then pour into petri dishes or culture tubes and allow to cool and solidify. Each bottle produces 10 liters of growth medium.
