Product Overview

By accurately recording the position of a moving object at regular intervals, this device offers considerable utility in many quantitative experiments involving measurement of velocity and acceleration. A moving object will drag a long narrow strip of paper tape under a carbon paper disc, and the vibrating striker prints dots on the tape at equal time intervals. The paper tape can be attached to carts moving on a flat surface, falling objects, vibrating pendulums, etc. From the dots on the tape, the distance traveled can be measured, the average speed calculated, and finally acceleration can be determined by plotting the average speed for each time interval versus time.

The timer generates 25 and 50 Hz electronically from a DC 12 V source producing 25 or 50 dots per second, selectable by a slide switch. A microprocessor is used to control the frequency. The heavy diecast base and rubber feet allow the device to operate without the need to clamp it to the bench. An extension rod from the base can be clamped to a retort stand to use the timer for freefall experiments.

This timer kit includes an 8 x AA battery holder for situations where no external power supply is available. New batteries can last for up to a year's worth of experiments under a normal use. Alternatively, a version with DC 12 V Power Adapter (CSA approved) is available.

What's included:
1x Timer
1x Carbon paper discs (PK/25)
1x Roll of white paper tape (30 m)
1x Battery holder for 8 AA batteries --OR-- DC 12 V Power Adapter. With wire leads to connect to the timer.
