Product Overview
Induction Coil (Based on Heinrich D. Ruhmkorff's Principle)
This induction coil delivers pulse-shaped high voltage in the range of approximately 50–80 kV, either AC or DC (selectable), powered by a 6–12 V DC input. It operates on the principle of a step-up transformer, consisting of a primary coil with a few hundred turns and a secondary coil with several hundred thousand turns. Both coils are permanently sealed and embedded in insulating polymer layers.
To enable continuous operation, the coil includes a magnetically activated vibrating interrupter. A built-in quenching capacitor prevents arcing at the interrupter contacts and reduces other performance issues.
The unit comes with a pair of point electrodes and a flat disc electrode, all equipped with insulating acrylic handles for adjusting the spark gap. The maximum spark gap (from tip to disc) is approximately 80 mm.
Applications: This induction coil is ideal for a range of physics demonstrations and experiments, including:
-
Visualizing electrostatic field lines
-
Powering spark-gap electromagnetic radiation (EMR) transmitter demonstrations
-
Energizing spectrum tubes and more
Power Requirements: Compatible with a 6–12 V DC laboratory power supply or battery pack. Note: Do not use electronically stabilized power supplies, as the high-voltage kickback pulses from the coil may damage them.
