Product Overview
This traditional electrostatic charge generator consists of two parallel acrylic 275 mm diameter discs supported on rigid uprights and a central pier. Each disc has multiple radial aluminium sectors that are driven in opposite directions by hand crank wheel and belt. The electrostatic charge on aluminium sectors is collected by brushes mounted on either end of the discs and stored in the two Leyden jars. When the potential difference between the jars is sufficiently high a spark will flow between the adjustable discharging spheres. This Wimshurst machine is mounted on a sturdy laminate base, stands 37 cm tall, and can generate sparks up to 100 mm long. Ships fully assembled.
