Product Overview
Provides a safe, but very dramatic demonstration of the generation of heat by the compression of air. Consists of a piston and handle fitted into transparent, thick-walled acrylic cylinder having its bottom end closed.
To operate, piston is removed, and a small portion of combustible fiber (included) is introduced at the top of the cylinder. Piston is inserted, bottom end of the cylinder is placed against a firm surface, and piston is forced downward. Spontaneous ignition of combustible material can be observed through transparent cylinder walls.
This is often used in combination with the catalog Item No. 28-687800 Expansion Cloud Chamber which demonstrates the cooling of air as the pressure decreases.
