Grade 1 filter paper is the most widely used filter paper for routine applications with medium retention and flow rate. This grade covers a wide range of laboratory applications and is frequently used for clarifying liquids. It is widely used in education for teaching simple qualitative analytical separations.
Grade 2 filter paper is slightly more retentive and having more absorbing power than Grade 1 with a corresponding increase in filtration time. The extra thickness gives increased wet strength, and the highher absorbency is particularly valuable when the paper is used as a sample carrier.
