Product Overview

Description
This is an excellent small-scale version of the Magdeburg hemispheres used by Otto von Guericke in his public demonstration in 1654 of the huge forces that atmospheric pressure can exert. Made from thick cast iron, our hemispheres have strong steel handles, and one hemisphere is equipped with a stopcock with nozzle (9 mm dia.) for connecting to a vacuum pump. When the hemispheres are joined together and the space is exhausted, stopcock closed, it will be impossible to pull them apart by hand. If the stopcock is opened, they separate. Diameter: 100 mm.

Additionally Required
Vacuum pump with tubing. We recommend our model 9011263-11 Oil Free Vacuum Pump (tubing is included).
