Product Overview
Magdeburg Hemispheres, Cast Iron
Experience one of the most famous demonstrations in the history of physics with this high-quality, small-scale version of the classic Magdeburg Hemispheres. Based on Otto von Guericke’s 1654 experiment showing the enormous force exerted by atmospheric pressure, this durable cast-iron set is ideal for classroom demonstrations of pressure, vacuum, and force concepts.
Each hemisphere is made from thick, precision-machined cast iron and fitted with strong steel handles for a secure grip. One hemisphere includes a 9 mm stopcock nozzle for connection to a vacuum pump. After evacuating the air between the hemispheres and closing the stopcock, the atmospheric pressure outside generates a force so great that the hemispheres cannot be pulled apart by hand. Opening the stopcock instantly releases the vacuum and allows them to separate.
Diameter: 100 mm
Construction: Cast iron hemispheres with steel handles
Stopcock Nozzle: 9 mm (compatible with standard vacuum pumps)
