Product Overview
This Laser Ray Box Kit has been very popular with teachers for introducing basic concepts of reflection and refraction to the beginning student. It is a complete package for individual student use enabling reflected or refracted rays to be traced.
When the Laser Ray Box is placed on the vinyl template with one or more optical elements in front of the slits, deviation of the beams may be seen and traced, even under bright lighting conditions because the beams are laser light (coherent and monochromatic). Reflection, refraction, total internal reflection, convergence, divergence, focusing, minimum deviation, and various combination effects can be produced, and thereby better understood.
Since the Laser Ray Box emits a low-power beam (less than 1 mW of optical power at 1 inch from the source), it is perfectly safe for use in the lab, or for independent student use.
The Laser Ray Box 10-Piece Kit comes in a cardboard storage box with a soft foam positioning insert and includes the following elements:
One (1) Laser Ray Box (project one, three or five separate laser light rays thanks to a three-position switch located on the front)
One (1) 4×1.5 V AAA Battery Holder for the Laser Ray Box
One (1) Vinyl Template—ruler & protractor
One (1) Biconcave Lens
One (1) Biconvex Lens
One (1) Adjustable Mirror—plane/concave/convex
One (1) Semicircular Lens
One (1) Semicircular Refraction Cell
One (1) Parallel-sided Block
One (1) Trapezoidal Prism
One (1) Right Angle Prism
The optical elements are made of high quality Lucite® acrylic, and the bottoms are frosted to show the ray paths inside them. Each rests properly on the table without other support. An excellent and economical kit for introductory ray optics student experiments.
