Demonstrates how electric current can be used to generate a very strong magnetic field. Using only one 1.5 V battery, this electromagnet can lift 80 kg. It consists of a core and a yoke with precision machined contact surfaces. The core has a cylindrical coil wound with multiple turns of enameled copper wire, 4 strands parallel. Both core and yoke are provided with hefty eyebolts. Includes alligator clip leads and D-cell battery holder attached directly to the electromagnet.
