Both resonance and beats may be demonstrated with these heavy weight steel forks. The two forks are accurately matched for frequency, and each is mounted on a resonance box. When one fork is struck, then silenced, the other during the interval will start vibrating due to resonance and may easily be heard by an entire class. The frequency of the forks is about 440 Hz. To show beats, one fork is loaded by means of a sliding weight thereby lowering its frequency. When the two forks are struck, beats will be noted.
