Product Overview
The unit is designed to help students determine the electrical equivalent of heat and for determining specific heat capacities of various solid materials with the included metal cylinders of aluminium, copper and iron.
This calorimeter consists of two nested aluminum cans separated by a thick styrofoam liner and a clear molded plastic cover. The cover of the electric calorimeter contains a mounted heating coil of about 1.5 ohms resistance with standard binding posts for electrical connections. When connected to a 6-volt battery, this coil will cause a temperature rise of about 5 degrees centigrade in 10 minutes. The supporting posts and coil are coated to prevent electrolysis. It is provided with an insulated handle, stirrer, and a single-hole rubber stopper. The inner reservoir has a capacity of 150ml.
The cap with the mounted heating coil can be removed and replaced with a solid rubber stopper so that the calorimeter can be used for determining specific heat capacities of various solid materials.
A set of three equal volume metal cylinders of aluminium, copper and iron is included for this purpose. Dimensions of cylinders: 38 mm x 20 mm dia. Supplied in a plastic case.
