Product Overview
For demonstrating the unequal expansion of two metals by the curvature produced when the strip is held in the flame of the Bunsen or alcohol burner. It consists of a strip of brass and a strip of invar riveted together for their whole length, with a wood handle attached at one end. Because the thermal expansion of the two materials is unequal, the bar will bend when heated so that the invar side will become concave; then it will straighten upon cooling. Metal strip dimensions (l × w): 210 × 20 mm. Handle material may be wood or plastic.
