For demonstrating the forces resulting from temperature changes in solid bodies. Features a massive iron rod that is mounted in a very rigid cast frame. One end of the rod is drilled to hold a thin, brittle iron bar. The other end is threaded and provided with a tensioning handle. When heated over flame, the rod expands and initial tension is restored by rotating the handle. As the central rod cools and contracts, the force on the smaller iron bar causes it to fracture with a loud sound. Supplied with 10 breaking bars and a steel burner for combustion agent. This unit is 40 cm long and weighs about 4 kg.
