Product Overview
This high-quality ripple tank combines ease of use with high visual resolution and responsiveness for demonstrating basic wave phenomena using water waves. The ripple tank is a shallow tank with a glass floor inside a watertight frame with foam beaches around the perimeter. Underneath the tank, there is an inclined mirror which projects the waves onto a viewing screen. The translucent vertical screen forms the front of the apparatus to display the projected image. The tank can be aligned such that it is horizontal by means of adjustable feet.
In use, a shallow pool of water is filled into the tank. A vibrator unit for mounting and energizing dippers is fitted to one side of the tank, and a bright, 4 W LED stroboscopic lamp is mounted above the water tank on a flexible gooseneck support to provide the projection light.
The vibrator unit and the LED stroboscopic lamp are both driven by a 40-100 Hz wave generator unit that synchronizes the vibrator’s oscillations with the stroboscope flashes, allowing extremely clear ripples to be shown. The vibrator unit can also be operated asynchronously to produce moving projected image of variable speed. The apparatus includes a variety of dippers and accessories (see photo), allowing exploration of a wide range of wave phenomena, including wave propagation, reflection, refraction, interference patterns and standing waves. Power adapters supplied with this unit have been tested, investigated and found to comply with the requirements of the Standard(s) for Power Supplies with Extra Low Voltage Class 2 Outputs (CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 223) and are identified with the cTÜV Listed Mark.
